Quit the ACM

The Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) is the "professional" organization for Computer Science and related fields. It is a waste of money to be a member, if you are a student it would be wise to never join in the first place, and cancel your membership if possible.

There are many reasons not to be a member.
  1. Their slow action in the wake of the ISCA'19 Peer-Review Fraud investigation
  2. The horrible handling of Sangeetha Abdu Jyothi's SIGCOMM complaint
  3. Their use of tracking html in their e-mails despite this being against the ACM code of ethics.
  4. The low quality of articles in the SIGARCH blog
  5. They gave the high-profile 2020 ACM Turing award to Jeffrey Ullman, a Stanford Professor that had openly racists statements on his University website for years. When called out on this, the ACM refused to take any further action.
  6. Many other reasons that will be added here in time.
